Many of us were taught that our nation was shaped by immigrants. Yet, throughout our nation’s history, we have increasingly discriminated against and dehumanized those who occupied this land before us, those who were brought here against their will, and those who wished to call this country home. This Sunday, we consider that complex history, while celebrating the vision of our country as one strengthened by diversity. We will express gratitude for all who have called and continue to call this country home, and we will lift up the work of our partner organization, Northern New Jersey Sanctuary Coalition, which provides support and awareness of asylum seekers and immigrants in Bergen County.
